Overcoming Mental Blocks And Self Sabotage

Transcript

Team, I want you to be honest with me…

Without looking at something you wrote down 6 months ago, do you know off the top of your head, your top goal that you are working towards for 2023?

If you have no idea, go and find your journal where you wrote down your goals so you can remind yourself what you are working towards, then keep reading!

And if you do know your major 2023 goal, but you’ve hit a wall, then you should especially keep reading.

At the start of this year I committed to running a marathon.

But lately, I have been experiencing some resistance.

My motivation for running has diminished.

First I blamed the weather - “I like running in the heat” I said

Then I blamed my schedule - “I don’t have the time right now” I said

Then I blamed my body - “I got sick last week, so I’m just recovering” I said

But now I realise that I’m just scared.

I’m about to do something that I have never done before.

The furthest I’ve run before has been 12km…

My next training session requires me to run 16km…

The one after that 18km

and in a few weeks time I need to run half a marathon (21km).

And that only gets me to half of my goal.

I'm guessing you can see why I’m freaking out.

It’s challenging.

But the interesting part is, the mental aspect is challenging me more than the physical. (for now anyway).

So how do we overcome these blocks when they arise and try to sabotage us from reaching our goals?

First we recognise the role we are playing in the problem itself. In my case, it wasn't the weather or my schedule… it was my own limiting beliefs.

If I continue to blame the weather all winter, I won't be ready to run a marathon this year. SO I need to change my beliefs and take back control of the situation.

Next, we RE-Prioritise the goal.

Maybe you have been working towards this for months or years, and if that's the case you might have slacked off a bit. Create space in your day to make meaningful progress towards what you desire (aka your end goal). Stick to your smaller goals and stop making excuses!

The last thing you need to do is take action.

Like I said above - work towards your smaller goals on a daily basis so that you can achieve your larger goal in the future. Pat yourself on the back and celebrate when you hit milestones along the way, but remember the job isn't over until you hit your big goal!

This is what I’m putting into practice in my life right now, so let's see if I can stick to it!

How are you tracking on the road towards your goals that you set for yourself at the start of this year? If you are struggling, I hope this reminder helps get you un-stuck!!
