00:00:00:01 - 00:00:00:30
Hi, team.
00:00:00:30 - 00:00:03:03
This week I'm coming at you
with a very important date
00:00:03:03 - 00:00:04:37
that you need
to be putting in your calendar.
00:00:04:37 - 00:00:07:01
The date is March 25th* at 8:30 p.m.
00:00:07:01 - 00:00:10:29
And for this hour, we're going
to be turning off all of our power.
00:00:10:31 - 00:00:12:49
You might be thinking, okay,
why are we doing this?
00:00:13:07 - 00:00:15:30
And this particular hour
is called Earth Hour.
00:00:15:31 - 00:00:19:02
Earth Hour helps to raise awareness
around different climate change factors
00:00:19:02 - 00:00:23:03
like deforestation and pollution,
loss of biodiversity
00:00:23:17 - 00:00:24:42
that's happening all around the world.
00:00:24:42 - 00:00:28:32
This week Taz and I are encouraging you
to come together and be a little bit
00:00:28:32 - 00:00:31:27
more conscious in your behaviors
about how you're treating the Earth.
00:00:31:28 - 00:00:36:03
Whilst Earth Hour focuses on turning off
your power and your lights for an hour.
00:00:36:06 - 00:00:38:37
There are other things that you can be
doing to help the environment as well.
00:00:38:38 - 00:00:42:31
So things like getting
a reusable water bottle or a coffee keep-cup,
00:00:42:42 - 00:00:46:17
taking your tote bags
or reusable bags to the shops, maybe even
00:00:46:17 - 00:00:49:29
becoming vegan for two days of the week
doesn't have to be the whole time.
00:00:49:31 - 00:00:52:29
You might walk or bike somewhere
instead of driving
00:00:52:29 - 00:00:55:31
or maybe catch a bus instead of driving
if it's only 5 minutes.
00:00:55:32 - 00:00:58:25
Raising awareness around
this is really important
00:00:58:25 - 00:00:59:33
and doing it quick as well.
00:00:59:33 - 00:01:01:43
There's so much going on in the world
00:01:01:43 - 00:01:04:25
and so many bills
that have been put forward
00:01:04:25 - 00:01:08:29
that are going to put us so far behind
that we really need to band together
00:01:09:03 - 00:01:13:17
and do as much as we can for the Earth
whilst it's still like viable.
00:01:13:20 - 00:01:17:09
I feel like we have a mix of young
audience and people our age,
00:01:17:09 - 00:01:20:24
perhaps slightly older,
and I know that you guys hear
00:01:20:42 - 00:01:24:15
about how important it is
to be making decisions like this,
00:01:24:24 - 00:01:27:24
but we are the future
and we need to be protecting our future.
00:01:27:33 - 00:01:30:46
So we need to start making these changes
now that will ensure
00:01:31:04 - 00:01:34:35
that we're able to live or our kids
will still be able to live on this planet.
00:01:34:38 - 00:01:35:39
So that's it for the week.
00:01:35:39 - 00:01:39:00
If there are any things that you do
to help the environment that we haven't
00:01:39:00 - 00:01:42:30
listed below in the writing section,
let us know in the comments.
00:01:42:39 - 00:01:45:42
You guys give the best advice,
so we want to hear about it too.
00:01:46:01 - 00:01:47:07
Bye.
The Earth is our home, and it is our responsibility to take care of it!
Unfortunately, the planet is facing many environmental challenges such as climate change, deforestation, pollution, and loss of biodiversity. However, there are small actions we can take to make a difference. This week, let’s come together and be more conscious of how we treat the Earth.
One way to raise awareness about environmental issues is through Earth Hour, an annual event where people turn off their lights for one hour as a symbol of their commitment to the planet. This year, Earth Hour will take place on March 25th at 8:30 pm local time.
“Deforestation is a major problem. We lose 18.7 million acres of forests every year, which is equivalent to 27 soccer fields per minute”.
Other than turning our lights off for an hour, here are some other ways we can help the environment….
1. Get yourself a re-usable water bottle instead of buying a new plastic bottle each time
2. Take a tote and reusable bags to the shops
3. Consider a plant-based diet for one-two days a week
4. Take the time to sort your rubbish and recycle what you can
5. Walk/bike instead of driving
6. Eat your left-overs and meal plan to avoid food wastage
7. Cut your shower time in half
8. Never litter…. Major ick if you do
9. Don’t impulse buy clothes. Take a second to think about if you really want it
10. Use energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs.
If we all wanna survive then we gotta make some changes (as a collective)!
Let’s start today!
Do you have any other ways you like to do your bit for the environment? Let us know in the comments!
