Hey Team!

00:01:17:03 - 00:01:19:22

In today's weekly reminder,

I want to talk to

00:01:19:22 - 00:01:23:06

you guys about some different ways

to handle stress.

00:01:23:15 - 00:01:25:19

So there's a lot going on

at the moment in the world.

00:01:25:19 - 00:01:27:28

And hopefully this video

00:01:27:28 - 00:01:30:25

will give you some different ways

of looking at your stress

00:01:30:37 - 00:01:34:01

and being a little bit better

prepared for it, because at some stage

00:01:34:01 - 00:01:36:03

we're all going to get a little bit

stressed out.

00:01:36:03 - 00:01:37:43

So here are some things you can do.

00:01:37:43 - 00:01:41:29

The first thing is focusing

on the things that you can control.

00:01:41:42 - 00:01:45:25

There's a lot of things that will be out

of your control in a stressful situation.

00:01:45:36 - 00:01:49:23

But what's the point on dwelling over

that when you can focus on yourself

00:01:49:31 - 00:01:52:03

and the things that you actually can move

the needle on?

00:01:52:04 - 00:01:55:31

That is the best thing to focus on

during stressful times.

00:01:55:32 - 00:01:59:00

An example of something you can't control

is someone else's

00:01:59:00 - 00:02:02:07

feelings towards you

and how they would act towards you.

00:02:02:08 - 00:02:06:20

An example of something you can control is

choosing what you want to listen to

00:02:06:30 - 00:02:09:12

in terms of music.

Some music makes you happy.

00:02:09:13 - 00:02:10:45

Some music makes you sad.

00:02:10:45 - 00:02:13:11

I feel like in stressful

times, it's a good idea

00:02:13:11 - 00:02:15:03

to choose something

that's going to make you feel good.

00:02:15:03 - 00:02:17:31

The second thing is to prepare for it

in advance.

00:02:17:39 - 00:02:20:12

Some stressful situations

catch us off guard,

00:02:20:20 - 00:02:22:22

but then there's other stressful

situations

00:02:22:32 - 00:02:26:02

that start to build slowly

and we can kind of see them coming.

00:02:26:03 - 00:02:29:33

Sometimes even opportunities

can turn into stressful situations.

00:02:29:35 - 00:02:32:33

If you find that you're quite

an optimistic person and you're always

00:02:32:33 - 00:02:35:40

looking at the bright side of things

and all the positive ways

00:02:35:41 - 00:02:39:15

a situation can go, a good idea for you

is to take a second

00:02:39:15 - 00:02:43:45

and just do some negative visualization

as well to just realistically

00:02:43:46 - 00:02:47:34

see if there is anything that would stress

you out, even as great

00:02:47:35 - 00:02:49:01

as the opportunity might be.

00:02:49:01 - 00:02:50:35

It sometimes comes with a cost.

00:02:50:35 - 00:02:52:40

Tip number three is journaling.

00:02:52:40 - 00:02:54:48

This one comes up a lot

in our weekly reminders

00:02:54:48 - 00:02:57:26

because it's just so good

and everyone can do it.

00:02:57:27 - 00:03:01:17

Take out a pen, take out a piece of paper

and start journaling your feelings.

00:03:01:31 - 00:03:05:26

Talk about how you feel, why it stressed

you out, what you were thinking.

00:03:05:39 - 00:03:08:21

It's good to put everything down on paper.

00:03:08:24 - 00:03:11:34

I find it really helps

me and it's also nice to look back on

00:03:12:13 - 00:03:14:17

and see your improvement over time too.

00:03:14:18 - 00:03:16:46

And lastly,

tip number four is to have a hobby.

00:03:17:00 - 00:03:20:08

Hobbies are great to go to when you're

feeling a little bit stressed out.

00:03:20:21 - 00:03:24:22

Usually the hobbies that we love

allow us to escape for a period of time.

00:03:24:28 - 00:03:27:26

For myself, when I'm feeling

a little stressed out, there's nothing

00:03:27:27 - 00:03:31:11

better than going to the things

that I love doing to cheer me up again.

00:03:31:23 - 00:03:34:18

There are so many more ways

to alleviate stress,

00:03:34:19 - 00:03:37:49

so if you have any more tips,

please leave them in the comments.

00:03:38:00 - 00:03:40:14

That's all for today,

team. We'll see you next week.

We all experience stress in different ways.

For some, it's difficult to focus on anything else except the thing that is stressing you out.

For others, you may try to push your feelings down and ignore them.

There are many ways to deal with stress… some good, some bad.

I hope this video/blog helps you to be ready for the next stressful situation you face.

“The blow you anticipate lands the least heavy” Seneca

Below are four ways to handle stress that can be more beneficial for your mental health:

1. Focus on what you control:

A lot of the time we worry over the part of the problem that we have absolutely no control over. Remind yourself that life is always happening for you, all you need to do is focus on what you can control in the situation.

2. Prepare for it in advance:

Let’s be honest, sometimes we create stress for ourselves. If you are an optimistic type of person you might want to do some negative visualisation before you say “yes” so quickly. Consider all pathways before proceeding!

3. Journal

Writing down how you feel and how you handle difficult situations can help you for future stressful situations .Make a habit of journaling in the morning or night. Let all your thoughts out!

4. Have a hobby

When your mind is full sometimes its nice to think about something else. Go towards the things you love when you are feeling a little overwhelmed.

Let us know below in the comments what you like to do to deal with stress!
